Mechanical Presses

Formtek Cleveland Standard Press Types:

Two-Post
For lighter gauge window or appliance applications (up to 50 tons), the Two-Post press may fit your application.
Four-Post
For larger flying dies and heavier duty applications such as metal construction and heavy transportation (up to 150 tons), a Four-Post style press may provide the versatility and tonnage you need now and in the future.
Tilt-Type
A specialized press for cutting swept profiles, such as automotive trim. The press can be tilted front to back and left to right, allowing you to cutoff off single axis and complex curves. And when the need arises, the Tilt-Type press can be adjusted to operate upright like a traditional mechanical press.

Yoder Mechanical Four-Post Presses

Yoder mechanical four-post presses employ a fabricated steel sub-base, with screw-type lateral and vertical adjustment for machine alignment. The heavy, cast semi-steel frame is stress relieved and accurately machined to insure correct and permanent alignment of moving parts. The heavy duty, machined upper crosshead insures accurate alignment of the die rails, which are hardened and ground, and mounted in pilot grooves.

The crankshaft -- a heat treated and machined alloy steel forging -- and the flywheel are mounted in grease-lubricated, anti-friction roller bearings with dust seals. The air-operated, multiple-disc clutch and spring set brake are electrically controlled. Provision is made on the P-42 and P-52 presses for non-repeat, single stroke operation, manual cutting, and jogging.

These machines are furnished with a solid-type head, adjustable with spacers or, as an optional feature, can be equipped for setting of shut height with a single screw.

Tishken Mechanical Presses

Tishken mechanical presses are a versatile, robust option for roll forming and tube mill systems. Notch presses can pierce, notch, emboss or add other engineered features to the product, either before (prenotch) or after (postnotch) the roll former, however the application may require. Cutoff presses can cut formed sections to required lengths in a flying die operation, so the roll forming machine never stops.

Features:

  • Alloy steel crankshaft and heavy duty bearings insure long service.
  • The ridged, compact construction requires a minimum footprint and frees up vertical space in the factory, unlike typical mechanical presses.
  • The heavy duty air clutch and brake enables high speed single stroke operation.
  • Accompanied with digital control technology, Tishken mechanical presses easily accommodate variable notching patterns and cut lengths.
  • The three-way adjustable press base provides ease of setup when product changeovers require switching out notch and cutoff dies.

Yoder and Tishken Open Throat and Two-Post Presses

Yoder and Tishken open throat and two-post designs provides maximum accessibility for die adjustment and service. It also makes for easier removal of finished lengths of stock. These press type cutoffs have fabricated steel sub-bases, with adjusting screws for lateral and vertical alignment. Semi-steel, cast frames are accurately machined to insure permanent alignment of moving parts.

Heads are semi-steel castings, deeply ribbed. Long bearing surfaces are accurately fitted to machined ways in the press frame. Long steel gibs hold the head in the ways, insuring proper alignment.

Tishken specialized COT presses

Tishken specialized COT presses are for cutting swept profiles, such as automotive trim. The press can be tilted front to back and left to right, allowing you to cutoff off single axis and complex curves. And when the need arises, the Tilt-Type press can be adjusted to operate upright like a traditional mechanical press.

Have a swept rollformed part, difficult cross section that a mechanical press is not the correct cutoff option? Call or e-mail Hill Engineering to see if a new or existing press can be retro-fitted with a Tishken COT style adjustable press.
